- Citizens Band Radio Service (CB): CB service allows two-way radio
communications and operates on 40 shared channels. It is commonly used for
personal and business communication over short distances. - Family Radio Service (FRS): FRS allows two-way voice communications over
short distances, typically less than one-half mile on the 0.5 watt channels and up
to two miles on the 2 watt channels. FRS units look and work much like walkie-
talkies. - General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS): GMRS is a land-mobile radio service
available for short-distance, two-way communications. It requires an FCC
license and is used for personal or business purposes. - Low-Power Radio Service (LPRS): LPRS is used for auditory assistance
devices, health care communications, and law enforcement tracking systems. - Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS): MURS allows for short-distance, two-way
communications on five channels in the VHF spectrum. It does not require a
license. - NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations that
broadcast continuous weather information directly from the nearest National
Weather Service office.
